Liberia's MCSS enrolls 409 volunteer teachers on government payroll

The Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) has announced that 409 verified volunteer teachers have been added to the government payroll. This move follows negotiations intended to resolve disputes regarding teacher compensation and welfare.

MCSS Superintendent Dr. Auguries E. Stevens stated that a group of 201 volunteer teachers is expected to receive outstanding retroactive salary payments shortly after the October 2026 payroll is processed. Additionally, salary adjustments for 133 qualified teachers are planned through the proposed 2027 national budget.

The announcement follows the suspension of a go-slow action by the MCSS Teachers Association, which had been protesting employment-related concerns. Stevens noted that the developments resulted from consultations with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, and the Civil Service Agency.
