Liberia's President Boakai pursues diplomacy and cabinet reshuffle

Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has undertaken key diplomatic and administrative actions to strengthen the nation's economic and international standing. On Capitol Hill, President Boakai met with U.S. Representative Gregory W. Meeks, the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, to discuss deepening the bilateral relationship between Liberia and the United States.

The discussions focused on strategic cooperation in economic investment, democratic governance, regional security, and coordination within the United Nations Security Council. The engagement aims to translate historical ties into practical economic opportunities and stronger institutional accountability.

In a domestic move, President Boakai appointed Steven M. Yekeson Jr. as the new Minister of Commerce and Industry. Yekeson, a private-sector leader with experience in investment finance and infrastructure, succeeds Magdalene E. Dagoseh. The appointment is part of an administration effort to improve market oversight, accelerate service delivery, and invigorate local enterprise through professionalized leadership.
