Liberman pledges to pass ‘Accused Law’ to block Netanyahu

Avigdor Liberman, leader of the Israel Beiteinu party, has pledged to advance a legislative initiative known as the ‘Accused Law’ to prevent individuals facing criminal charges from serving as Prime Minister. This move is specifically aimed at Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently facing corruption trials involving bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.

Liberman stated that following the swearing-in of the 26th Knesset, his party will work to replace Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana and subsequently pass the law through three readings. He emphasized that his party will not join any government led by Netanyahu, though he noted that the Likud party could potentially serve as a coalition partner under different leadership.

In a separate political development, Liberman accused Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yesh Atid party, of violating opposition agreements. Liberman alleged that Eisenkot’s ‘Largest Party’ campaign is designed to attract votes from within the opposition camp rather than from those evading military service. Liberman further claimed that Eisenkot intends to negotiate with Netanyahu after the elections to secure a position in a future government, prioritizing personal ambition over political reform.
