National Libertarian Party proposes abolishing Chile's Ministry of Sport

Following the resignation of Sports Minister Natalia Duco, the National Libertarian Party (PNL) has proposed the total elimination of the Ministry of Sport. The proposal comes after Duco and Undersecretary Andrés Otero stepped down amid allegations filed with the Comptroller General of the Republic regarding the use of fiscal vehicles and payments related to the Proddar Scholarship.

Juan Antonio Urzúa, general secretary of the PNL, argued that the ministry's resources should be redirected toward combating drug trafficking and crime. Urzúa stated that citizens can engage in sports or other activities on their own initiative without the need for a dedicated ministerial structure and fiscal staff.
