Liberty and Starlink partner for satellite mobile connectivity in Costa Rica

Liberty is partnering with Starlink to implement mobile satellite connectivity in Costa Rica. This technology is designed to complement existing terrestrial mobile networks by providing essential communication in remote or rural areas where traditional coverage is unavailable.

The system allows compatible mobile phones to connect directly to Starlink satellites when terrestrial signals are lost, without the need for additional antennas, specialized satellite phones, or extra equipment. The connection occurs automatically as long as there is a clear view of the sky. Wendy Madriz, communications manager at Liberty, noted that the service is intended to assist users in maintaining essential communication in isolated regions rather than replacing the terrestrial network.
