Liberty Galați leadership resigns amid systemic crisis
The executive leadership of the Liberty Galați steel plant has announced its resignation, citing a systemic collapse of the industrial platform. In an open letter to authorities, management warned of grave risks, including the potential loss of qualified personnel, degradation of technological equipment worth hundreds of millions of euros, and severe safety hazards.
Financial difficulties have left employees without salaries for over five months. Additionally, unpaid debts to local transport services have halted employee shuttle services. Due to these financial and energy supply issues, approximately 2,200 employees are scheduled to enter technical unemployment starting November 1. Only essential services and activities will be maintained at the plant.
Management warned that an inability to pay electricity bills could lead to a total disconnection from the grid. Such a disconnection could cause industrial systems to collapse within hours and create explosive gas mixtures within the internal network. The leadership has called for urgent state intervention to ensure energy supplies and unblock the sale and financing processes of the plant.
