Liberty Lines apologizes for Gianni M hydrofoil technical failures
Liberty Lines has issued a formal apology to passengers following significant delays and technical failures involving the hydrofoil Gianni M on the Trapani-Pantelleria route.
The issues began at 15:00 during navigation when an engine component malfunctioned. For safety reasons, the affected engine was stopped, and the captain decided to return to Trapani, as the port offered better conditions for maneuvering with only one operational engine. This return was conducted at reduced speed, with the vessel arriving in Trapani at 19:00.
Following technical interventions supervised by engine manufacturer maintenance teams and naval classification technicians, the vessel departed Trapani at 22:00. However, at 00:05, the engine's cooling circuit experienced further anomalies. The captain opted to continue the journey to Pantelleria using a single engine at a controlled speed, eventually arriving at 04:00. Due to these events, the scheduled return trip could not be completed, and passengers were transferred to a later ferry service.
