Libraries celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month

Libraries in the United States and Canada are participating in Library Card Sign-Up Month this September, a national initiative led by the American Library Association.

The Chincoteague Island Library is encouraging residents and visitors to sign up for free cards, offering a chance to win a library tote filled with gift cards and goodies for new members. Library Board President Lisa Reed noted that the library serves as a welcoming space with programs for all ages.

In Canada, the Champlain Library is highlighting its diverse resources available through library cards, which include access to video games, museum passes, telescopes, and a ‘Library of Things’ featuring items like light therapy lamps and air quality meters. The library also offers various community programs, such as science exploration, book clubs, and astronomy sessions, and maintains a fine-free policy.
