International Library Day marked by global cultural activities

Various regions are observing International Library Day through diverse cultural programs designed to promote reading and community engagement.

In Spain, the Castilla-La Mancha region has organized over twenty activities across Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, and Toledo, including poetry recitals, workshops, and exhibitions dedicated to figures like Federico García Lorca. In Madrid, authors Javier Sierra, Espido Freire, and Jorge Díaz participated in an initiative by leaving hidden messages within books in municipal libraries. Other Spanish locations, such as Astillero and Melilla, held outdoor events and storytelling sessions to bring literature to families and children.

In Mexico, the municipality of Soledad de Graciano Sánchez implemented literacy programs and the ‘Mochila Viajera’ initiative to bring book collections directly to schools. In Ecuador, the ‘Biblio al parque’ event in Guayaquil utilized public spaces like Parque Seminario to offer literary workshops, music, and book exchanges.

In Colombia, the ‘Laboratorio del Conocimiento’ in Rionegro provides students with creative learning opportunities through play and group dynamics to foster skills beyond the traditional classroom.
