Libraries in Zuid-Hollandse Eilanden host literacy and digital skills events
Libraries in the Zuid-Hollandse Eilanden region are hosting various events to promote literacy, writing, and digital skills. During the Week of Reading and Writing, the Bibliotheek Zuid-Hollandse Eilanden highlighted the challenges many people face with basic skills, including reading, writing, mathematics, and digital literacy.
To support those struggling with the digital transition, the library offers the ‘Taalmaatje’ service through the DigiTaalhuis. This free service helps individuals improve their Dutch language skills, focusing on speaking and reading to assist both foreigners and parents of school-aged children. Activities during the week included using an old-fashioned typewriter to experience historical writing methods.
Additionally, the Kinderboekenweek in Hoeksche Waard features a diverse program for children. Scheduled activities include the youth performance ‘Knoei in Maasdam’ at OBS De Pijler, a LEGO-based stop-motion film workshop at the Oud-Beijerland Centrum library, and the ‘Spot aan!’ children's book week concert.
