LibreOffice highlights user freedoms on Software Freedom Day

On Software Freedom Day, the free software community highlights the capabilities and user protections provided by LibreOffice. Distributed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, the software adheres to the four fundamental freedoms of free software: the freedom to run the program for any purpose, study its source code, modify it for individual or organizational needs, and redistribute copies, including modified versions.

LibreOffice utilizes the Open Document Format (ODF), an ISO/IEC standard developed through OASIS. This ensures that users maintain ownership of their documents, as the format is transparent and cannot be unilaterally controlled or modified by a single company. This standardization allows for long-term document readability and supports the obligations of public authorities to preserve records and communicate with citizens without requiring specific proprietary software.
