Libreville agricultural fair targets high cost of living

The Maison de l’Entrepreneur hosted a two-day agricultural fair titled ‘Foire agricole : tous unis contre la vie chère’ (Agricultural Fair: All United Against the High Cost of Living) at the Nzeng-Ayong stadium parking lot in Libreville on September 4–5, 2026.

The event saw high attendance from urban residents seeking affordable local produce. Organizers aimed to reduce the cost of living by connecting producers directly with consumers, bypassing intermediaries. Featured items included various meats such as gazelle and porcupine, as well as staples like cassava, taro, onions, and eggs. Some products were sold at significantly lower prices than usual; for example, cassava packages were offered at 1,500 francs CFA compared to the typical 4,500 to 6,000 francs.

While the fair was considered a popular success due to its accessible pricing, some visitors noted organizational challenges, including long wait times. The event highlighted the economic potential of ‘Made in Gabon’ products and the demand for direct-to-consumer agricultural models in urban centers.
