Libreville launches campaign against urban unsanitary conditions
Libreville Mayor Eugène M’ba has launched a major campaign to combat urban unsanitary conditions and civic incivility in the Gabonese capital. The initiative began in the Louis district of the 1st arrondissement, focusing on waste management and the maintenance of commercial storefronts.
The municipality is deploying specialized enforcement units, including central brigades from City Hall and sector-specific brigades within the arrondissements. These teams consist of agents from the Municipal General Inspection, the General Directorate of the Environment, and the General Directorate of Cadastre. Their primary mission is to patrol the city, raise public awareness, and enforce municipal regulations.
To ensure compliance, the city will impose fines on residents and economic operators who violate hygiene rules or fail to adhere to the collection schedules set by the operator Clean Africa. The campaign aims to secure cleared sites and prevent the re-emergence of illegal waste accumulation points.
