Libya and Qatar discuss migration cooperation and economic ties
Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Al-Khulaifi met in Tripoli to discuss bilateral relations and the quadripartite cooperation mechanism regarding irregular migration. This mechanism involves Libya, Qatar, Turkey, and Italy, and aims to enhance security and technical cooperation to combat human smuggling and support voluntary return programs.
During the discussions, the parties focused on utilizing the experimental operations room established in Tripoli to coordinate efforts against illegal migration. Beyond migration, the meetings addressed ways to strengthen Qatar’s role in supporting Libya’s political and economic stability, specifically in the energy, health, and investment sectors.
In addition to meeting Dbeibah, Al-Khulaifi met with the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi. The discussions emphasized expanding economic partnerships and trade, particularly in energy and investment, while reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to Libya’s sovereignty and the pursuit of a comprehensive political settlement.
