Libya boosts gas output and exports to Italy with Eni's Sabratha Compression project

Italy's Eni, in partnership with Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC), has launched the Sabratha Compression project on the offshore Bahr Essalam field. The new 1,600‑tonne compression module adds roughly 440 million cubic feet per day (about 800 million cubic metres annually) of gas capacity, helping to maintain production as reservoir pressure declines.

The additional gas is expected to bolster Libya's domestic electricity supply, improve the country's energy security, and increase exports to Italy via the Greenstream pipeline. The venture is part of a broader push that includes the Bouri Gas Utilization Project and the development of the Structures A and E offshore fields, while NOC chairman Masoud Suleman noted that Libya's crude oil output has risen to its highest level since 2013.
