Libya Deploys Advanced Surveillance System Along Borders with Tunisia and Niger

Libyan authorities are rolling out high‑tech border surveillance across two fronts. In the east, the Libyan National Army signed a contract with a Turkish private firm to install an integrated monitoring system covering about 275 km of the southern border with Niger. Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar said the project will boost detection of weapons, narcotics, people‑smuggling and terrorist movements.

In the west, the Ministry of Interior’s border guard launched the first phase of a 200‑km electronic surveillance line along the Libya‑Tunisia frontier, installing optical and thermal cameras. The effort is coordinated with the European Union Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM) and aims to improve early‑warning capabilities against irregular migration, smuggling and cross‑border crime.
