Libya implements AI and automation strategy for oil production

Libya is developing a digital oilfield strategy centered on artificial intelligence, automation, and enhanced communications infrastructure. This initiative supports the National Oil Corporation (NOC) in its goal to increase crude production toward two million barrels per day.

The Ministry of Oil and Gas has launched the New Energy Tech initiative to bridge operational challenges in the energy sector with local engineers, AI specialists, software developers, and robotics teams. The program aims to move digitalization beyond simple procurement by developing customized solutions for Libya’s specific operating conditions, targeting improvements in efficiency, emissions, and decision-making.

This technological push follows a milestone at the Al-Khair field, where the NOC subsidiary Sirte Oil Company completed Libya’s first fully autonomous AI-powered geosteering operation using SLB technology. These advancements will be a key focus at the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES) 2027 in Tripoli.
