Fawzi al-Mansuri, Libyan military intelligence chief, killed in Benghazi bombing
Major General Fawzi al-Mansuri, the head of military intelligence for Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA), was killed in a bombing in Benghazi on Monday. The attack occurred when an explosive device detonated in his vehicle outside his home in the Al-Hawari area.
No group or organization has claimed responsibility for the assassination. Local authorities in eastern Libya have condemned the killing and ordered an investigation to identify those responsible. The incident highlights the ongoing security instability in Libya, which remains politically divided between the LNA-aligned authorities in the east and the internationally recognized Government of National Unity in Tripoli.
Al-Mansuri had previously served as the Sebha Military Region Commander and was appointed to lead the Military Intelligence Department in May 2024. His death represents a significant blow to the security leadership of the Haftar-led administration.
