Libya pursues institutional reunification amid diplomatic efforts

Libyan authorities in Tripoli and Benghazi have resumed discussions aimed at the gradual reunification of state institutions. These talks focus on organizing state structures, security coordination, and establishing a framework for upcoming national elections. This renewed dialogue follows a United Nations-facilitated roadmap and an agreement signed on August 30 regarding the High National Elections Commission, which aims to facilitate presidential and legislative elections within a 24-month period.

In a separate diplomatic development, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and US Senior Adviser Massad Boulos held a phone consultation to discuss advancing Libya’s political process. Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to Libya’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the unification of national institutions. The officials also addressed regional stability, including the need for maritime freedom in the Strait of Hormuz and efforts to halt the conflict in Sudan through dialogue and negotiation.
