Libya submits bid to host Africa Cup of Nations in 2028, 2032 or 2036

The Libyan Football Federation has officially submitted a bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations in one of the three upcoming editions – 2028, 2032 or 2036. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) opened a new bidding process on 3 July, inviting all 54 member associations to present individual or joint proposals.

Libya, which last hosted the tournament in 1982, aims to demonstrate its ability to meet CAF’s technical, financial and organisational requirements, including stadium upgrades, transport and accommodation plans, security measures, medical services and broadcasting infrastructure. The bid follows previous missed opportunities in 2013 and 2017 when security concerns led to the tournament being reassigned.

Other nations such as Egypt, a Botswana‑South Africa joint bid, Ethiopia and Senegal have shown interest for the 2028 edition, but Libya is among the first to have formally lodged its proposal.
