Libyan military seizes 1.3 million narcotic pills in Kufra raid

The Subul al-Salam Infantry Brigade, operating under Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army, seized more than 1.3 million narcotic pills during a raid in the southeastern city of Kufra. The operation targeted hideouts used by traffickers near the country’s southern borders.

The raid involved a firefight with suspected smugglers, resulting in injuries to three soldiers. Military footage from the scene showed large quantities of pills packed into transparent plastic bags, as well as transport trucks and storage containers used by the traffickers.

The seizure highlights growing concerns regarding Libya’s role in international drug trafficking. While the nation has long served as a transit hub for narcotics moving across the continent, analysts warn that porous borders and political instability may be fostering an expanding domestic consumer market and a parallel criminal economy.
