Libya's National Oil Corporation signs energy pact with Chevron

Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has entered into a production-sharing agreement with the US energy firm Chevron to explore and develop resources within the Sirte Basin. The deal follows an international tender launched in 2025 and aims to leverage Chevron’s technological expertise to support the development of Libya’s petroleum resources.

In a separate strategic move, NOC Chairman Masoud Suleiman has called for the expansion of gas transmission and distribution projects across the country. During a meeting with the General Gas Transmission and Distribution Company, Suleiman emphasized the need to develop infrastructure to supply gas to various cities and regions, including Tripoli and Benghazi. These projects, such as the pipeline from the Al-Farigh field to the Sarir gas-fired power plant, are intended to improve services and support national development.

The NOC is currently working toward increasing Libya’s oil production from 1.5 million barrels per day to a target of two million barrels per day.
