Libya's oil production halts and power cuts deepen national crisis

The Libyan National Oil Corporation announced the suspension of operations at the Milita industrial complex after protesters entered the site, and a complete shutdown of the Elephant oil field. Production at the Wafaa field was also partially halted, leading to acute shortages of gas and fuel needed to run electricity‑generating stations, which forced several power units offline.

Widespread electricity outages have further crippled the economy, affecting water‑well operations, transport, and public services. Experts warn that the blackout creates a domino effect across vital sectors, threatening fuel supplies, water delivery, and overall economic stability.

Authorities have called for immediate security measures to protect oil infrastructure and have indicated they may invoke force‑majeure if conditions prevent the resumption of operations.
