Licata officials' family graves desecrated in targeted cemetery raids

The family graves of Licata Mayor Angelo Balsamo and Cemetery Services Councilor Giuseppe Federico were desecrated and destroyed in separate cemetery raids. The incidents occurred in the Cappuccini and Marianello cemeteries during the All Saints' Day period.

Investigators from the Carabinieri are looking into the matter to determine the motive and identify the perpetrators. Local officials, including the President of the City Council Anna Triglia, have described the act as a criminal assault rather than simple vandalism, with some suggesting the methods resemble mafia-style intimidation.

Political leaders from across the spectrum, including representatives from Fratelli d’Italia, Movimento 5 Stelle, and Partito Democratico, have issued statements of solidarity with the affected families. The association Anci Sicilia also expressed support, stating that such actions will not hinder the administration's efforts to uphold legality and transparency.
