Licca-chan doll culture featured on Nippon TV variety show
On a recent broadcast of the Nippon TV variety program ‘Sakusaku Himuhimu ☆Oshi no Furu Yoru☆’, Snow Man member Daisuke Sakuma and ACEes’ Hikari Ukisho explored the growing ‘Licca-katsu’ phenomenon—the hobby of collecting and styling Licca-chan dolls.
The program highlighted the evolution of the iconic Japanese doll, which approaches its 60th anniversary in 2027. While the brand faced a decline around 2014, the introduction of the ‘LiccA Stylish Doll Collection’ targeted at adults, combined with the increased time spent at home during the pandemic, revitalized interest. Recent innovations, such as the ‘Neo Licca Body’ with enhanced articulation, have contributed to a significant surge in adult sales.
Guests including doll clothing designer ryoko, fan Ringo, and creator Shinako shared their collections and experiences. Sakuma participated in various activities, including using the ‘Licca-chan Telephone’ to converse with the doll and participating in a themed photoshoot where participants styled dolls under the concept of ‘Licca-chan at a TV station.’
