Liceo scientifico Ferrari undergoes €2.5 million seismic upgrade

The Province of Forlì-Cesena has completed a €2.5 million seismic improvement project at the Liceo scientifico Ferrari in Cesenatico. The intervention was designed to enhance the building's earthquake resistance without requiring invasive internal structural changes.

The core of the project involves the installation of three dissipative seismic-resistant towers located at critical points: two on the front and one on the side of the building. These towers use an energy dissipation system to reduce structural acceleration and displacement during seismic events. The towers are anchored via a central spherical hinge support and perimeter energy dissipation devices.

By utilizing this external design, the project avoided the need to relocate students and staff, which would have been required for at least three years under alternative construction methods. Additional works included reinforcing floors against collapse and restoring wall finishes.
