Lidl and other retailers see shifts in consumer basket prices
Retail price trends in Central Europe show varying shifts in consumer costs. In the Czech Republic, the average value of a monitored consumer basket decreased by 0.82% in July, dropping from 2,134 CZK to 2,116.60 CZK. This decline was observed in eight out of twelve retail chains, with Lidl recording the most significant monthly decrease of 6.14%. Conversely, Albert SM saw the highest price increase at 3.11%. While prices for fresh and colonial goods fell, the availability of promotional products in the fresh and drugstore categories decreased.
In Slovakia, Lidl has implemented long-term price reductions on hundreds of products, with some discounts reaching up to 30%. A model shopping basket containing 30 common items, including fresh food, dairy, and drugstore supplies, showed a 22% reduction in cost, dropping from 50.98 EUR to 39.63 EUR.
