Lidl announces 31 new store openings and mobile scanning service in France
German discounter Lidl is expanding its presence in France, planning to open 31 new stores across approximately 20 departments by February 4, 2027. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to grow from its current base of nearly 1,600 locations to a target of 2,000 stores by 2035.
Alongside this physical expansion, Lidl is introducing its ‘Scan & Go’ service to the French market. Available via the Lidl Plus application, the feature allows customers to scan products directly in the aisles using their smartphones. This technology, previously available in Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Belgium, aims to optimize shopping time and help customers track their budgets in real time.
Currently, the ‘Scan & Go’ functionality is active in 40 Lidl stores in France. Customers using the service must complete their purchases at automated checkout stations by selecting the ‘Pay’ option within the app. The service is expected to be integrated into upcoming store openings.
