Lidl expands European presence with major investments in Latvia and UK
Lidl is executing significant investment strategies across its European markets. In Latvia, the retailer is celebrating five years of operation, having expanded to 39 stores across 16 cities. To date, the company has invested over 420 million euros in the country, contributed more than 305 million euros in taxes, and created over 1,100 jobs. Lidl Latvija also operates a logistics center serving both Latvia and Estonia and partners with more than 120 local producers.
In the United Kingdom, Lidl GB has announced a £400 million investment in price cuts ahead of the Christmas trading period. This follows a strong financial year where turnover rose 10.8 percent to £13 billion. The retailer recently became Britain’s fifth-largest supermarket, overtaking Morrisons. The UK strategy includes expanding the premium Deluxe range and increasing investment in the Lidl Plus loyalty app and the Lidl & Go mobile self-scanning service.
