Lidl expands retail presence through Esmara fashion and strategic discounting
Lidl is leveraging its private label, Esmara, to compete in the fashion market by offering budget-friendly alternatives to high-end trends. The retailer recently introduced a velvet bomber jacket priced at 16.99 euros, which mirrors a viral design from Zara that previously sold for nearly 50 euros. The Esmara line, which has gained recognition through collaborations with figures like Heidi Klum, focuses on women's apparel including basics and maternity wear.
While Lidl does not operate its own textile factories, it utilizes a network of suppliers and importers to produce Esmara clothing. The company has also engaged in sustainability initiatives, such as pilot projects involving gold-certified 'Cradle to Cradle' biodegradable textiles.
In addition to fashion, Lidl employs specific pricing strategies to manage inventory. Significant discounts of up to 50 percent are often applied to fresh produce, dairy, and meat products shortly before store closing times to reduce waste and manage products nearing their expiration dates.
