Lidl GB invests £10m in EV charging network and cuts tariffs

Lidl GB is reducing its rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging tariffs for Lidl Plus loyalty members, lowering the rate from 62p/kWh to 59p/kWh. The retailer stated that this reduction could save drivers approximately £4 per session, potentially totaling £529 in annual savings.

Alongside the price cut, Lidl GB is investing £10 million this financial year to expand its charging infrastructure. This includes the installation of roughly 100 new rapid chargers at existing locations. The company also plans to equip the majority of its new stores with rapid charging facilities. This follows a £25 million investment in its EV network since 2017, with one-third of Lidl GB stores currently offering rapid charging services.

The expansion comes as the number of fully electric vehicles on UK roads has grown to over 2.1 million. Despite this growth, reports from the Department for Transport indicate that 47 per cent of EV drivers feel there is insufficient public charging infrastructure to meet demand.
