Lidl introduces Wero payment method for online shopping

Lidl has introduced a new payment method called Wero to its online shop, allowing customers to complete purchases directly from their bank accounts without needing a physical payment card. The system enables instant transfers via mobile banking apps or QR code scanning, which also facilitates faster processing of product returns.

The Wero service is part of the European Payments Initiative (EPI), a consortium of 18 European banks and payment providers aiming to provide a competitive alternative to global services like PayPal and Apple Pay. Lidl is the first grocery retailer to implement the service in Germany, with plans to expand the feature to its e-shops in Belgium and France later this year.
