Lidl launches Scan&Go mobile scanning technology in Belgium
Lidl has launched its Scan&Go technology in Belgium, allowing customers to scan items using their smartphones via the Lidl Plus app. This feature is designed to reduce checkout queues by enabling shoppers to scan products as they shop and proceed directly to payment.
The rollout began in the Destelbergen and Melle locations, with plans to expand to approximately thirty Belgian stores by the end of the year. The technology integrates loyalty programs, digital shopping lists, and payment functions into a single interface. Additionally, the system utilizes artificial intelligence to assist with produce identification and provides proactive promotional alerts.
To encourage adoption, Lidl is offering a one-time 5 percent discount for first-time users of the system. While the digital experience is being prioritized, traditional checkout counters will remain available for customers who prefer them.
