Lidl launches summer fruit‑and‑vegetable scavenger hunt for kids in UK stores

Lidl GB is trialling a free, in‑store fruit and vegetable scavenger hunt for children at 100 selected stores across the United Kingdom from mid‑July. Recyclable tags attached to the mini‑trolleys give clues such as “mini trees” for broccoli and “orange sticks” for carrots, encouraging youngsters to locate fresh produce while shopping. The programme, which targets areas identified by deprivation indices, also offers Lidl Plus vouchers for free fruit and veg items during the school holidays.

The initiative builds on Lidl’s “Foodies” schools programme, now in its second year and already reaching more than 640,000 pupils in over a quarter of British primary schools. In Scotland, 13 stores in cities including Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee are participating. Lidl says the activity aims to improve nutrition knowledge – recent research found 52% of 8‑11‑year‑olds think pineapples grow on trees and 28% are unsure where strawberries come from. Families can also download the game online if their local store is not part of the trial.
