Lidl opens new supermarket in Lisbon's Parque das Nações, boosting staff to 280

Lidl Portugal opened a new supermarket on 17 July in the Parque das Nações district of Lisbon, located on Avenida Fernando Pessoa next to the CUF Descobertas Hospital. The store covers more than 1,200 m² of sales space, features nine rapid‑checkout lanes (four suitable for shopping carts) and provides about 130 parking spaces for customers. It operates daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The opening raises the number of Lidl stores in the Lisbon municipality to 19 and brings the company's local workforce to roughly 280 employees, all hired on open‑ended contracts. Entry‑level shop‑operators receive a salary package of €1,200 per month (about €16,300 annually), which can rise to €19,800 per year at the top tier. The new outlet also supports the ReFood program by donating food and essential goods to families in need. The launch is part of Lidl Portugal's expansion plan, which invested €160 million in 2025 and aims for 300 stores and an online sales platform by 2027.
