Lidl introduces Wero payment method and updates shopping insights
Lidl is implementing several operational and promotional updates. The retailer has introduced Wero, a new European digital payment solution supported by a consortium of banks, as a payment method in its online shop. To encourage adoption, Lidl is offering a 5-euro voucher to Lidl-Plus customers who make a purchase of at least 50 euros using Wero between September 1 and October 31, 2026.
Regarding consumer habits, peak shopping times at Lidl stores typically occur on Saturdays, particularly between 10:00 and 13:00, when aisles and checkout lines are most crowded. In the United Kingdom, the Friday before Christmas is traditionally the busiest day of the year. To manage store capacity, the Lidl-Plus app provides real-time information on store occupancy, though it requires location data to function.
Additionally, social media content has highlighted the differences between German and American grocery shopping, noting that American visitors find German produce prices significantly lower and encounter unique local snack items.
