Lidl rolls out new self-checkout technology and mobile scanning in UK
Lidl is implementing significant technological upgrades across its UK store network, including the rollout of advanced self-checkout machines and the expansion of its mobile scanning service.
The new self-checkout machines, designed by the Schwarz Group, feature overhead cameras, large vertical screens, and LED lights to assist staff. These machines, which display shoppers on-screen during the scanning process, are being installed in all new stores and gradually retrofitted into existing locations. They are intended to run alongside traditional manned tills to enhance efficiency and the customer experience.
Additionally, Lidl GB is expanding its ‘Lidl & Go’ self-scanning trial to 37 more stores across Scotland and England. Integrated with the Lidl Plus app, this feature allows customers to scan products using their own smartphones to track spending in real-time and complete purchases seamlessly. The expansion follows a successful pilot program that received positive feedback regarding flexibility and spending control.
