Lidl seafood products receive high consumer test ratings
Lidl's seafood products have received high marks in independent consumer tests, despite broader environmental concerns regarding the industry. The retailer's ‘Ocean Sea 15’ fish sticks earned a ‘Good’ rating for their ingredients and sensory qualities, while its ‘Nixe’ tuna fillets received a ‘Very Good’ rating from Öko-Test.
However, the availability of salmon in supermarkets brings sustainability challenges. Foodwatch reports that approximately 200,000 farmed salmon escape from Norwegian cage farms annually, threatening wild populations. Additionally, only about 42 percent of Norwegian salmon aquaculture carries the ASC seal. Organizations such as PETA have also raised concerns regarding behavioral issues and parasite infections, such as salmon lice, in farmed salmon populations.
