Lidl to open large 1,000-square-meter supermarket in central Madrid
Lidl is shifting its expansion strategy in Spain by opening a large-scale supermarket in a highly central urban location. The new store, measuring 1,000 square meters, is scheduled to open on October 29 in the Chamberí district of Madrid.
Located at San Bernardo 95 in the Arapiles neighborhood, the site occupies the former Garaje Modelo, a building dating back to the 1950s. This move represents a departure from the retailer's typical smaller-format urban stores, aiming to compete more directly with rivals like Mercadona by increasing sales volume in high-traffic, central areas.
