Lido implements higher-balance Ethereum validator testing
Lido has initiated a limited rollout of higher-balance Ethereum validators, marking a shift from the traditional 32 ETH cap per validator. This move follows Ethereum protocol upgrades that allow for stake consolidation, which aims to reduce the administrative and computational overhead caused by running numerous small validator instances.
The initial phase is being conducted as a controlled test rather than a full expansion. To mitigate risk during this period, node operators are required to post a 32 ETH bond. This requirement is intended to align operator incentives with the integrity of the higher-balance validators while allowing the protocol to monitor performance.
Separately, Lido has addressed the mechanics of Ethereum exchange-traded products (ETPs), noting that liquidity buffers can impact yield. The protocol highlights that products maintaining unstaked cash reserves to manage redemptions may earn rewards on a smaller portion of their total ETH exposure compared to liquid staking alternatives.
