Liebherr unveils RE 22 M Litronic road-rail excavator

Liebherr has announced the premiere of its new RE 22 M Litronic road-rail excavator, set to be showcased at InnoTrans 2026. Positioned in the 22-ton class with an operating weight between 22 and 25.7 tons, the machine succeeds the A 922 Rail and A 924 Rail models.

The excavator features a 120-kW engine and a proven hydraulic system, paired with a newly developed Generation 8 undercarriage. A key innovation is the patent-pending rail chassis, which allows the machine to operate both on rails in an elevated state and directly on the tracks using road tires in a lowered position. This design provides flexibility between maximum traction and infrastructure-friendly operation.

Additional technical specifications include a traction force of 50 kN, with speeds reaching up to 40 km/h (or 60 km/h in towing mode, subject to approval). The machine also features a completely redesigned cabin equipped with the INTUSI intuitive control concept.
