Liechtenstein celebrates national holiday in Vaduz

Liechtenstein celebrates its national holiday annually on August 15. The date was officially designated in 1940, chosen because it coincided with the Feast of the Assumption and the birthday of the former Prince Franz Josef II.

Traditions include an official state act held on the castle meadow (Schlosswiese) in Vaduz, followed by a festive reception in the Schloss Vaduz gardens. During this event, Prince Hans-Adam II, Prince Regent Alois, and Hereditary Princess Sophie host the population for food and drinks, fostering a connection between the ruling family and the citizens. The celebrations typically conclude with a large fireworks display over the mountains.
