Liechtenstein’s Brigitte Haas Addresses Swiss National Day in Schwyz

Liechtenstein’s Regierungschefin Brigitte Haas delivered the keynote speech at the Swiss National Day celebration in the municipality of Schwyz on 1 August. Her participation marked the first time a member of the Liechtenstein government was invited to speak at an official Swiss federal celebration on Swiss soil.

In her remarks, Haas highlighted the long‑standing partnership between Liechtenstein and Switzerland, citing the 1923 customs treaty as a cornerstone of economic and political cooperation. She praised the historic role of the Canton of Schwyz and emphasized the importance of personal contacts, family ties, cross‑border workers and cultural exchanges that sustain the close neighbourhood. Around 400 attendees, including Canton Council President Mathias Bachmann and other local officials, gathered for the event.

The ceremony underscored the mutual trust and shared values that bind the two small Alpine states.
