Liepāja 2027 Foundation announces cultural heritage funding competition

The Liepāja 2027 Foundation has announced a co-financing competition titled ‘Jāņi lauku sētās’ (Jāņi in Rural Homesteads) to promote Latvian summer solstice traditions and intangible cultural heritage. This initiative is part of the ‘Northern Solstice’ project, which aims to strengthen connections between Baltic and Nordic cultures while preparing for Liepāja’s designation as the European Capital of Culture in 2027.

The competition invites owners of rural homesteads in Liepāja, Kuldīga, and South Kurzeme to organize authentic, publicly accessible Jāņi celebrations in June 2027. The foundation intends to support at least 10 projects that offer inclusive experiences for all visitors, including those with mobility impairments. Participants who completed previous workshops on traditional songs, games, and event production will receive additional points during the evaluation process.
