Liepāja introduces electric buses and revamped fare system

On 31 July, Liepāja’s municipal transport operator PS Pilsētas pārvadājumi began operating a fleet of small‑capacity electric buses, marking the start of a ten‑year public‑transport contract. The launch coincided with a new route network that increases service frequency on key lines – for example, route 4 will run 52 trips a day (up from 20) and route 10 will run 70 trips (up from 24).

At the same time, a new fare system went live, replacing single‑ride tickets with time‑based tickets. A one‑hour ticket costs €1, while a ten‑hour ticket is €9, and a 365‑day pass remains available. The system also introduces digital ticket sales via a mobile app, longer ticket validity periods measured in days rather than calendar months, and an upgraded passenger‑information platform.
