Liesa ticket collection rules spark consumer backlash in Rio
The Independent League of Samba Schools (Liesa) has introduced a new rule for ticket collection at the Marquês de Sapucaí that has sparked backlash from consumers. Under the new regulation, all six occupants of a reserved box (frisa) must be present simultaneously for ticket collection and must have pre-registered facial biometrics. The rule prohibits partial collection or the use of a representative, meaning the absence of a single member prevents the entire group from receiving their wristbands, even if the space is fully paid.
Consumers, particularly those traveling from outside the state of Rio de Janeiro, have expressed indignation, noting that these requirements were not explicitly disclosed at the time of purchase. The Rio de Janeiro State Legislative Assembly (Alerj) Consumer Rights Commission has intervened, issuing an official notice to both Liesa and Ticketmaster. The companies have been given 30 days to present a solution to the Commission to ensure consumers are not unfairly penalized.
