Lietuvos paštas releases apple cheese postage stamp
Lietuvos paštas has released a new postage stamp featuring apple cheese, a symbol of Lithuanian culinary heritage. The stamp's theme was selected by the public through a vote held last summer, where citizens chose between apple cheese, skilandis, and girona. Apple cheese emerged as the most popular choice.
Designed by artist Giedrė Gabnienė, the stamp has a print run of 40,000 copies and a face value of 1.65 EUR. To mark the release on August 14, first-day cancellations will take place at the Vilnius post office on Totorių Street.
Apple cheese is a traditional Lithuanian dessert made by boiling and drying apple mass until it reaches a firm consistency. This release continues a series by Lietuvos paštas to commemorate Lithuanian culinary traditions, which previously included items such as cepelinai, šakotis, and šaltibarščiai.
