Lietuvos paštas warns of scams involving money transfers
Lietuvos paštas (Lithuania Post) has issued a warning regarding scammers exploiting money transfer services to manipulate unsuspecting individuals. Fraudsters often use emotional tactics, promising miraculous health recoveries, financial success, or romantic connections to convince victims to send funds to strangers.
Specific cases reported include an elderly woman sending significant sums to individuals in Germany and Russia claiming to be parapsychologists offering supernatural healing services. In another instance, a woman attempted to send money to American singer Steve Perry, claiming a personal relationship with the artist.
To combat these activities, Lithuania Post employees are authorized to temporarily suspend suspicious transfers and ask customers follow-up questions regarding the purpose of the payment and their relationship with the recipient to prevent financial loss.
