Life Biosciences administers first human epigenetic rejuvenation injection for glaucoma

Life Biosciences announced that it administered the first dose of its experimental ER‑100 therapy to a patient with glaucoma. The treatment is delivered by an intravitreal injection of a harmless virus carrying three genes that reprogram aged retinal cells without altering DNA, aiming to restore youthful function and halt vision loss.

The phase‑1 trial will enroll up to 20 participants, with safety, tolerability and visual outcomes monitored over five years. CEO Jerry McLaughlin described the approach as a potential way to reverse disease at a fundamental level, while co‑founder David Sinclair emphasized that restoring epigenetic information could combat aging. The FDA has recently cleared human testing of anti‑aging vaccines, and the study could open pathways for treating other neurodegenerative conditions, though scientists caution about possible mutation or tumor risks.
