Life Biosciences begins human trials for cellular reprogramming therapy

Life Biosciences has initiated the first human trials for a cellular reprogramming therapy aimed at reversing cellular aging. Rather than attempting to halt the aging of an entire organism, this initial study focuses on treating glaucoma, a condition that damages the optic nerve and can lead to vision loss.

The therapy attempts to change genetic signals to restore youthful cellular functions. Early data from the company indicates that three patients have received the treatment; two showed significant improvement in vision during standard ophthalmological exams, with no serious adverse reactions reported so far.

While the results are promising, independent experts caution that the small sample size is insufficient to draw definitive conclusions. They note that improved vision may result from enhanced function of existing cells rather than true cellular rejuvenation. The research has attracted significant interest and investment from high-profile figures including Jeff Bezos, Peter Thiel, and Sam Altman.
